Joe Stengel

Joe Stengel is the newest partner to be elected at Benson & Case.

A native of southwest Denver, Joe Stengel is a believer that hard work leads to success.   He was the owner of a small auto repair shop, elected to the Colorado State Legislature four times, and now, he is expanding his practice as an attorney.

Joe earned a bachelor’s degree in economics and history from Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado.  He applied skills learned from that degree in starting and operating his own small business in Englewood for many years.

In 1998, Joe was elected to serve the first of four terms in the Colorado State Legislature. Joe’s legislative priorities included strengthening parental involvement in education, reducing taxes, and enhancing local control through a fair distribution of state tax revenues, especially for roads and schools.

Joe focused on businesses and tax issues. During his tenure at the legislature, he served as Chairman of the House Finance Committee for four years and served as House Minority Leader in his final term.

Always having had an interest in the law, Joe decided to pursue a law degree in 2001.  He received his Juris Doctorate from Denver University Sturm College of Law in December 2004.  He accomplished this attending night school while fulfilling his duties in the Colorado State Legislature during the day.

He interned at the Jefferson County District Attorney’s office, and then went on for a short stint at another law firm in Denver.

In 2007, Joe joined the law firm of Benson & Case as an associate. He is working hard for many clients.  He is also licensed to practice through the Wyoming State Bar.

The majority of Joe’s free time is spent with his family.  Both sons were involved in club and school sports, with Joe a bona fide “soccer dad”.  He was an Assistant Scout Leader, and helped his son achieve the rank of Eagle Scout.  His interests include outdoor sports, hunting and fishing.

Our office is constantly reaping the rewards of Joe’s breadth of knowledge as a business owner, a political leader and community servant. He is a great fit with the team at Benson & Case and is busy helping clients with their litigation needs. Give Joe a call today to see how hard he’ll work for you.  303-757-8300
