Colorado Cross Disability Coalition honors John Case with Peter Robertson Award.

John fought for a CCDC member who was paralyzed on the left side after being struck by a hit and run driver. Our client, who was a devoted husband, and who worked as a professional banquet manager until his injury, never gave up. With the help of his wife and Craig Hospital, he learned to walk with a walker. Our client had purchased employer group insurance coverage that promised to pay benefits in the event the employee suffered paralysis on one side of the body. The insurance company refused to pay benefits to our client, arguing that he was not paralyzed because he could squeeze a ball with his left hand and walk with a walker. Our brief writer, Russ Jones, was instrumental in persuading the United States Court of Appeals, Tenth Circuit, that the actions of the insurance company violated our client’s rights. The case establishes legal precedent that helps persons who are wrongly denied ERISA insurance benefits. The Tenth Circuit’s decision is Rasenack v. AIG Life Ins. Tom Benson named a Denver 2011 Five Star Wealth Manager.

Tom is honored to be selected for this elite honor for the 2nd year in a row. Surveys were sent to 109,000 high net worth households in the Denver metro area asking them to rate their wealth managers (Financial Advisors, Financial Planners, Investment Advisors, Tax Advisors, Estate Planning Attorneys). Surveys asked for rankings based on Customer Service, Integrity, Knowledge/Expertise, Communication, Value for fee charged, Meeting of financial objectives, Post-sale service, Quality of recommendations and Overall satisfaction. Only those with more than five years of experience were considered.

Next each nominee was reviewed for regulatory actions, civil judicial actions and customer complaints. Before finalizing the list, wealth managers were reviewed by a blue ribbon panel comprised of peers from the financial services industry. The resulting list of 568 people out of over 15,000 was published in the November issues of ColoradoBiz and 5280 Magazines.
